How to Use the PLO Starter Pack

What does the PLO Starter Pack grant me access to?

The PLO Starter Pack includes access to PLO Basics, PLO Skills, and an invitation to join our public Discord. You will never be charged for this, and you can always upgrade your account by visiting our pricing page. 5-card PLO Skills is only available for free for a limited time.

PLO Skills is a mobile-first tool for practicing preflop PLO. It includes opening ranges (and calling ranges for 4-Card PLO), as well as training ratings and accuracy tracking.

PLO Basics is a selection of videos from our 1200+ library with everything you need to get started and avoid the biggest mistakes by learning the foundations of the game.

What are the requirements to run PLO Skills or watch PLO Basics videos?

Both PLO Skills and PLO Basics are browser-based and compatible with all operating systems, just make sure to use one of the major browsers and ensure that it is up to date. Chrome, Safari and Firefox are supported.

A free Discord account is required to access our public Discord. If you have never used Discord before, check out our step-by-step guide on how to use it.

How does PLO Skills work?

Follow these steps to start training with PLO Skills.

  1. Go to skills.plomastermind.com or 5card-skills.plomastermind.com
  2. Log in with your free account credentials
  3. Select the profile you want to train
  4. Select difficulty
  5. Select stack size
  6. Select the Skill you want to train
  7. Select position
  8. Select how many hands to train in your session (inside the Train button)

Once you’ve done the previous steps, click on ‘Train’ to begin your training. When your training sesion is done, you will have the option to retry your mistakes.

Streaks, Result Descriptions, & Ratings

If you get more than one answer correct in a row, you’ll start seeing the streak indicator to the right of the hand. This number will continue to grow as long as you keep getting answers correct. In the bottom left of your training screen you can also see the maximum streak you’ve had in the current training.

Each time you select an action a result description is assigned to its accuracy. This is based on EV (expected value) and can range from ‘Blunder’ (the worst mistake) to ‘Must Move’ (a correct, necessary move). Here is a list of all answer descriptions:

  • Must move: this move is a must, or you lose significant EV

(EV loss = 0, EV diff > 5% of the Pot)

  • Correct: correct, the GTO preferred answer

(EV loss = 0)

  • Indifferent: correct, but not the GTO preferred answer

(EV loss = 0)

  • Inaccuracy: incorrect, small EV loss

(EV loss <= 1.5% of the Pot)

  • Mistake: incorrect, considerable EV loss

(EV loss <= 3% of the Pot)

  • Blunder: incorrect, huge EV loss

(EV loss > 3% of the Pot)

You can also see the description meanings by clicking on the question mark icon in your training screen. Additionally, after training 15 hands you’ll also be able to see your performance rating for the current training in the bottom right corner, which is based on your accuracy (the percentage of correct answers related to the total amount of hands). Here is a list of the session performance ratings:

  • Mastermind

    0 Mistakes

  • Expert

    0% - 0.25% average EV Loss and 90%+ correct

  • Pro

    0% - 0.75% average EV Loss and 80%+ correct

  • Skilled

    0% - 1.5% average EV Loss and 70%+ correct

  • Student

    0% - 3% average EV Loss and 60%+ correct
